I still can't actually do any work at work, because they haven't given me local admin access on my laptop. I can't install any of the tools I use. I can't even restore the backup I made of my old laptop. IT claims it's going to take 4 days for them to get around to my admin request.

How do big companies function?! This is insane.

Anyway, if a broken laptop leads to 10 business days of downtime for an employee, something is wrong with your organization is what I'm saying.

Back in The Good Old Days if you needed a laptop the company IT department either had a small stack on hand or they'd say "Oh yeah just go down to the store and expense one" and that was that. It's such a nightmare now. Security and all that, yes, I get it, but it makes life so much worse. Everything is terrible now.

@tilton We literally have a stack of spares like you just described. They get wiped and reimaged when they come back, ready for the next person.

@zorinlynx @tilton Same here. We keep spares and loaners in every office, and IT stays on top of the supply to make sure everyone has enough before they're needed.

@tilton I wish so badly I could just expense a decent laptop. Our "standard" is a Surface Laptop 4.

I love starting the computer and seeing a baseline usage of 70% CPU/60% RAM before I even launch an application (thanks to all the security crap running on there).
