@Canageek You've got to go pretty deep down a few longtermism / accelerationist rabbit holes, but basically the idea is that an AGI is inevitable, so we need to research right now how to make sure that an eventual AGI is aligned with our ethics and morals.

OpenAI is really big into that shit, but it gets very weird very quickly.
