Hey Fedi and friends,
I'm looking for rad music to check out since I'm finding myself listening to the same few albums over and over lately (which is fine, but now I'm actively looking for something new)
I generally like jazz, indie rock, prog rock, metal (less so nowadays, but it's still enjoyable occasionally), hip-hop, and the occasional rap.
I don't /generally/ care for pop country (especially the rap-hybrid stuff, ew) or EDM, but I'm open to suggestions regardless.
I'll add some stuff I think is rad to this thread, too!

KNOWER - Overtime (Live Band sesh)

I may not make comments for every one I post - I don't necessarily have the energy or time.

Louis Cole (feat. Thundercat) - Tunnels In The Air
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3DxnBbYg6s
"How can you hang me out to dry
Feeling that everything I do is wrong
And maybe we don't see eye to eye
All that I ever do is try
Sometimes it's hard to just let go
Alone in your world can be so cold
Why does it have to unfold
Maybe it's just a misunderstanding"

Supertramp - School
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgJRM_8GWHg
After my parents taught me how to use their turntable, this was the first record I played. I was obsessed with "Dreamer", having heard it in the recently released (at the time) Rocky & Bullwinkle live-action film. Little did I know this album would set off my obsession and longing for cool, melodic, and proggy music. Incredible album, front-to-back.

Minus The Bear - Into The Mirror
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUxAwnlZvnA
This track hooked me on MTB. One of the grooviest Indie tracks I've ever heard. Smooth, like downing a cup of NyQuil after your throat becomes numb from all the coughing when you're sick. No, I really couldn't think of another comparison.

Devin Townsend Project - Offer Your Light

I can't help but blast this tune on a nice stereo, or in my car. I love Hevy Devy

Closure In Moscow - Better Way
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqNr4ZVdonc
Groovy prog rock. This band is so damn cool. Their previous album, "Pink Lemonade" is a fun concept adventure from front to back with many groovy jams, especially "Seeds of Gold", but that song is already so popular. Better Way off the latest album goes pretty hard.

Covet - Falkor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTxSXUzc96A
I guess this is considered "Math Rock"? I'm not sure how else to classify it, but think along the same lines as early Nothing But Thieves, American Football, or CHON. (If you haven't heard of those others - PLEASE look them up)
Very chill, really cool guitar work too!

Manchester Orchestra - The Gold
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaeWss85_vg
AW YEAH, MORE MOODY INDIE ROCK, LET'S GOOOOOOOO! For real though, I love these guys. Their music, especially the last few albums have hit me square in the feels. If you heard Manchester Orchestra prior to their album "A Black Mile To The Surface", you should revisit them. They sound totally different now.

Talking Heads are really strange. I love them.

As Tall As Lions - Where Do I Stand?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYeX1il_huo
"Dear, I fear that we've gone wrong
You've always hung me from the gallows
But I don't feel I'll be forgiven
Yeah, I don't feel I'll be forgiven
If you don't see it, you could never walk away
If you don't feel it, it's gonna get harder every day
But you don't want love, keepin' you awake at night
'Til you can't sleep"
MORE SAD INDIE ROCK YAAAAASSSSSSSSS. So you likely have not heard of this band, maybe you have. You are more likely to be familiar with stuff the frontman (Dan Nigro) has worked on with the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, or Chappell Roan. This dude doesn't stop - he's a music machine.

The Dear Hunter - Let Go
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cgUTjILtvA
I Can't Believe It's Yet Another Sad Indie Rock Track! (I think I have a [music] type)
"Sleepless nights start an inner war
When the worst of me simply can't concede
That I am stuck in superstition
Cause the things I've known
Never turn out so
So I'll try and let go
Of all of the wicked things
The haunting melody
A song of spirits passed on
The notes of a strained refrain
That never seems to find its way
So I'll give in
And live life the way that I have always been
The ghosts still wailing at the door
Begging to be let in"
This is one of the first songs to leave a lump in my throat, nearly bawling as I was driving home, singing along, going through one of the toughest times in my life.
I fucking love The Dear Hunter.

Thank You Scientist - Make Like a Tree (Get Out)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rk9c2Qkgik
HELL YEAH, prog rock with violins, horns, practically a mini-orchestra with wild guitar-work and fantastic drumming.
This group is still actively making music, and I'm so excited to see what they put out next. This track in particular is from their first EP (that I'm aware of), called "The Perils of Time Travel"

Incubus - The Warmth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vccHPmTvZ6k
This song (and album for that matter) has been heavy on my mind lately. One of the recurring theme/subject of the album is not to give up on hope, that there's still good out there, along with the theme of making yourself instead of letting others mould you into what they determine you should be.
I know Incubus was written off by a lot of elitist douchebags I've met over the years, but honestly, you should give them a shot if you've ignored or otherwise haven't listened to them.
"I'd like to close my eyes, go numb
But there's a cold wind coming from
The top of the highest high-rise today
It's not a breeze 'cause it blows hard
Yes and it wants me to discard
The humanity I know, watch the warmth blow away
So don't let the world bring you down
Not everyone here is that fucked up and cold
Remember why you came and while you're alive
Experience the warmth before you grow old"

Coheed and Cambria - Here to Mars
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svyLMR7yjhU
I wouldn't say I'm a hopeless romantic, but I have been called a "cheese-ball" on numerous occasions. My partner and I are hugely into Coheed, and we occasionally message each other, "Love you from here to Mars ❤️"

@dankeykang it's not the same thing but i saw david byrne's broadway show. he will always be on the weirdest possible edge of wherever he's standing. for this show, the band performed barefoot, even the one carrying a marching band drum
