Hey Fedi,

Do any of you know of a way to export Samsung Health data and import to Apple Health? I still have recent working Android devices around if needed.

I don't mind if the path is a little convoluted, I just don't want to start over with zero health data when I switch to Apple watch.

NOTE: I do not use subscription streaming services. I self-host my music library, and would (ideally) prefer links to YouTube and/or Bandcamp (or another place where DRM-free files can be purchased) over Spotify links, if it's not too inconvenient.

Worst case, I can use a search engine - don't sweat it too much.

Hey Fedi and friends,

I'm looking for rad music to check out since I'm finding myself listening to the same few albums over and over lately (which is fine, but now I'm actively looking for something new)

I generally like jazz, indie rock, prog rock, metal (less so nowadays, but it's still enjoyable occasionally), hip-hop, and the occasional rap.

I don't /generally/ care for pop country (especially the rap-hybrid stuff, ew) or EDM, but I'm open to suggestions regardless.

I'll add some stuff I think is rad to this thread, too!

Day 6 of HRT - I am currently at odds with one of the feminizing HRT stereotypes by still being too bothered by the texture/feel of pickles to enjoy them. The taste is good, but the sensory aspect is too bothersome - it totally ruins it.

I shall give them another go in the future and report my findings.

Brand new HP printer acting funky out of the box. I wired it in, configured WiFi connection, then unplugged the ethernet cable. The WiFi light started blinking, but I expected it to go stable after a few seconds - the connection config was successful and saved.

So I try power cycling the device. It doesn't seem to respond to panel button presses until maybe my third time pressing on Power. I give it a sec to think, then press power again. The power light starts blinking, no noise, and no WiFi light. Weird.

I pull the power plug, reconnect the ethernet cable, power it back up, and it comes back to life, although slower than would be expected.

I figure maybe there's a firmware bug, so I make sure the date and time is correct before checking for and installing the latest firmware available.

So far so good, until...

The printer reboots, makes the usual boot noises, but that was at least 5 minutes before I started writing this post and it's still just sitting there with a blinking power light.

So the entire point of writing all that context was to laugh at Apple's trade-in system (in Canada).

As of today (Jan 27, 2025), trying to choose non-Apple devices, specifically Samsung or Google (Phone, tablet, smartwatch) for trade-in on a watch results in ZERO trade-in value, and an offer to recycle your 'worthless' device.

Meanwhile I can get $80 for a 1st-gen iPad Pro 12.9.

Jfc, I know Pixel devices are shit, but DAMN.

There'd be a lot of diehard Pixel fans who would be very upset by this information if they lived a single moment outside their circle-jerk.

Now that I'm properly settled in the [mobile] Apple ecosystem, I'm looking into an Apple Watch to replace my otherwise perfectly fine Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2.

Samsung hasn't updated the Galaxy Watch (Gear S) app/connector on iOS in TWO YEARS, and besides some features not being available or straight-up not working properly, I can't get my iOS alarms to buzz my watch too.

I hate that these devices are so damn dependent on specific hardware or services being used that they're practically worthless outside of the 'golden' setup.

While I know that Apple isn't much better in certain situations, I know that they do a HELL of a much better job re: software/hardware support over a long period of time. Although it no longer receives OS updates, I have an iPhone 5S that still works, and most functions still work just fine, although not all apps are available, of course.

Anyway, Android sucks now and the AOSP is a joke (solely in that it's frustrating/difficult/unusable for the general user without adding Google's junk).

At least Apple largely stays out of the way after initial setup, for better or worse.

No more sneakily re-enabled Google Photos sync filling up my free storage tier, no more "Finish setting up your phone" for weeks after initially setting it up and multiple times confirming "Yeah, I'm fucking good, stop asking me".

I wasn’t expecting this project to happen at all, so I’m beyond excited regardless. Just won’t be able to fully set it up yet.

This’ll give me some time to get familiar with TrueNAS Core and figure out how I wanna set up my mirrored NVMe drives for ZFS metadata and/or caching.

Got all the storage server parts in. Sadly, I didn’t look too closely. While the Phanteks Enthoo Pro II is an amazing case, it doesn’t come with eight 3.5” drive mounts like I need - it only comes with four. ._.

I guess I can continue the build and do some limited testing, just a little sad and disappointed. 😅

I find it increasingly funny, thinking about a joke I made earlier in my (social) transition about changing my name to "Vi" 'cause people would have a hard time quitting me.

So far, it's the only name (Vi/Violet) that's in the running. I wish my brain could tell me what it's looking for in a name. 😅

TODAY'S THE DAY! I have my third appointment with a care provider today, and if my labs look good, I should be getting my first prescription for HRT!

I've been bouncing off the walls all morning, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about today going back a week or so.

If I need to keep the imposter syndrome at bay, I should look back on this day. There is no doubt in my mind that this is what I want for myself.

Aside from "Behind Blue Eyes" and "Pinball Wizard", the three tunes used as intro music for the CSI TV series ("Baba O'Riley", "Who Are You", and "Won't Get Fooled Again") are among my favourite from them.
