Fed up to my bloody teeth trying to explain to my colleagues that cutting their breaks short to help in store is the same as paying the shop to work.

I realise it's an abstract and absurd concept to some. I mean who would pay to work in retail?

Toot

Your local friendly national grocery retailer does not give one fuck about its baseline employees.

@Silversnapples

And as a result staff don't give a fuck about customers. Our small local Tesco used to get fresh fruit and veg on Monday, but yesterday the bananas were old so maybe I was too early. This morning still the same manky bananas no-one wants to buy. So I asked if they were expecting a delivery. Answer, with a shrug, no idea. Maybe #Tesco will read this and respond? (Unlikely).

@pthane Tesco. Just one of several large companies who blanket buy out banana stocks and then have to sell them on. It's very likely that small stores of any company won't have any way of knowing with any certainty right now exactly what is going to turn up and how much they're going to have to try and move - charity donations must get fed up of looking at bananas.

Can I add that in spite of the way base line staff are treated, many actually do care. You have to keep in mind they are also customers. Quite often captive ones too because who wants to go shop elsewhere after they've had to work in it all day.

@Silversnapples

It's sad how retail has changed. Yes, stuff is generally cheaper as % of family income but quality of product is hit and miss with so much pre-pack and customer service is generally poor. Big problem living in a small town is getting fresh ingredients for cooking. At least half of Tesco is snacks, ready meals, chocolate/sweets, alcohol.

@pthane you should give them regular negative feedback. Be honest. Suggest improvements too. Sorry you have a shit grocery store. That's not great at all.

Corporate greed clearly needs more regular feeding than customers.

@pthane I gotta add, if your shop is cheaper I need to shop where you do!

Pretty much every packaged thing has less in the packet and therefore price cuts show no true bearing. It's all an illusion
