@typeswitch i read something today about snake oil to the effect of… snake oil salesmen aren’t interested in solving a real problem. people who have real problems that can be solved by a product only buy one product. however if you invent a fake problem, it won’t be solved by the snake oil and people will keep buying snake oil forever. idk i am still thinking about it and it seems related.
