Public consultation is open until Friday 14 February 2025, with changes coming in 2026.

Personally, I would want to see the slowest sections of the Sydney to Melbourne train line upgraded to be a 6 hour trip, as suggested by Philip Laird.
I would increase frequencies to be at least one service every 30 minutes.
And then I'd run half hourly coach services that connect with the train.
Sydney-Melbourne rail upgrades...

@ajsadauskas.bsky.social I was just thinking about this yesterday. I think MEL-SYD is both one of the most frequent plane routes, and one of the most profitable. It'd be awesome to offer an alternative.

@michcampbell @ajsadauskas.bsky.social there was actually a pilot by @TalgoGroup to use pendular #trains to reduce travel times, but it got rejected
