he told the band to be smart and spend as little money as possible so there wouldn’t be much to recoup, and so the band planned on having someone in their circle shoot their first major label music video on the cheap

he was told if the band didn’t spend loads of Warner Brothers’ money then none of the higher ups would pay attention, the band wouldn’t get promoted, and they’d surely fail
so they hired some Hollywood music video director and the video cost like 600k

anyway, I think about this story all of the time, especially when we see (tech? AI?) companies that are grossly overvalued and spending way too much money when it’s obvious the job can be done just as well for a lot lot lot less
