Anyone have recommendations for secure email/vpn/password managers? I have been using Proton for the past 3 years or so, but am now thinking of switching in light of the CEO's recent statements

@nathans I have been using Bitwarden for password management, Mullvad for VPN, and hosting my own email. I'm pleased with the arrangement.

@jp @nathans fyi if you're hosting your own mail server, you could also host your own bitwarden server using vaultwarden (formerly bitwarden_rs) to get many premium features for free

@nathans I don't know that there's a comparable all-in-one solution, but I'd recommend Bitwarden for password management, Fastmail/Tuta/Hey for email and calendar, and Mullvad for VPN.

@jcrabapple @nathans Iā€™d second Bitwarden for password management. Been using the free tier for years without issue.

@nathans I have had good luck with keepassxc, an open source product. You need to find a place to store your db file that you consider secure, but that's duable.

@nathans maybe don't let politics sway your mind on tools that work for you. I might not like the comments either but Proton is still a solid choice for its offerings. CEOs and Presidents are temporary.

@nathans I decided secure email wasn't worth it. Far too many holes. I do use non-Google email through Migadu, though, which I trust not to spy on me themselves.

I use Bitwarden for passwords and Tailscale as a VPN to my home network. I might add Mullvad VPN if I feel the need for a more general VPN, but usually I just want to secure my traffic from the local network. NextDNS handles my DNS on all devices.
