@loren They make this cute little meep-meep sound a lot of the time. When their Mum finds a tasty morsel she leans over it and clucks excitedly until they come and get it. It's very sweet!

@arisummerland There's that gangly awkward stage coming up soon, I think. But for now they're as cute as a button 😀

@BjornIdle

Ohhh they start to get so gangly and goofy-looking -- and then they start picking on each other! 😳

I love hatching broods of chicks! I try to do it whenever one of my hens goes broody.

I get fertilized eggs from my farmer friend up the road and then return the brood to her when they're old enough. She's developing some interesting crosses right now. Mostly blue and green egg layers, but a few olive. Stunning.

Sometimes I get to keep a pair of hens from the group I've raised, but right now my population is really stable, so I haven't needed to replenish it. 🤞

@arisummerland That must be great to be able to keep hatching chicks, but not have an ever-expanding flock 😆

We might do a small brood every few years if we have space for new ones and a very broody hen. We have two champion brood ladies at the moment - seems like if one of them isn't broody then the other is.
