Red Bidibid (aka Acaena novae-zelandiae) has some fabulous alternate names - bidgee-widgee, buzzy and piri-piri bur (according to Wikipedia).

I found this one growing alongside one of the braided rivers in North Canterbury

Another new plant in our garden - these are the tips of the leaves of Titanopsis hugo-schlechteri (aka Jewel Plant or Living Rock). It's a cute little succulent with really interesting textures

Two kookaburras I caught chortling to themselves in a Norfolk Island Pine tree.

We have a nice crop of big mushrooms growing above / along where the roots of a small tree that died are. These ones are probably 15-20cm across, and seem to be the biggest so far

The chicklets are a week old now. We think they might be an Araucana (the silvery one on the left), and a Gold-Lace Wyandotte. Not sure about sex on either of them yet but we'll find out in time...

Mother hen is doting on them and very attentive.
