Discovered the whole BE eid middleware was awol and wouldn't even install anymore, nailed it down to libassuan0 not being available for most platforms on Debian sid...
Installed the version of bookworm manually and everything is up again.
A full upgrade of sid still wants to kick out virtualbox so unstable is really acting like it
