There are quite a few apps that encourage daily language learning — pimsleur, babbel, duolingo.

Which apps do something similar for mathematics practice?

@nadinestorying Good question, let me forward to some other math types.

The only thing that occurs to me is https://www.numbas.org.uk/, but that is more targeted at teachers, and doesn't have the gamification of things like duolingo.

@mackenzian What kind or level of mathematics are you looking to practice? Starting from the beginning? Helping prepare for some level of formal school? Research?

@ColinTheMathmo @christianp

Any ideas for "Duolingo for mathematics"?

@bremner @mackenzian

two possibilities come to mind. One is Simon Tatham's puzzles (search your favourite app store but it's available on f-droid); a large number of the puzzles involve mathematical reasoning skills. Another is Euclidea. It's a game where each level is a construction in plane geometry; when you complete a level you can unlock that construction as a move in the game. There are also bonus points for finding minimal constructions (in terms of number of operations).

If you're looking to improve mathematical knowledge, look into anki (spaced repetition). Someone's probably made a good deck.

@bremner @nadinestorying @mackenzian @ColinTheMathmo @christianp Hi @bremner (thanks @nadinestorying for sharing).

I think I'd like to start at the beginning to warm up. But ultimate goal (say by this time next year) is readiness for a second swing at college algebra, calculus, and statistics.

@mackenzian Does Khan Academy not fit the bill? It's not SUPER mobile friendly, but it works. Has an app, etc.
