In an interesting twist of events I broke my reciprocating saw, dismantled it, found out how it worked, cleaned it, put it together again (surprisingly without brute force and nearly no parts left behind), and afterwards it did work again.

I assure you nobody can be more surprised about that but me.

@CaraBruar @didathingclub Yeah, it is always that way, isn't it? Some screw or small metal part you have NO idea where it belongs after you meticously reassembled everything. 😆

@strangeseawolf @didathingclub what worries me is when the repaired thing works anyway. What were those left over bits even for then?

@CaraBruar @didathingclub May I introduce to you the thing I discovered after I reassembled the saw? The saw works. I have no idea what it is. But I feel it judges me!

@strangeseawolf @didathingclub yeah, its eyes follow you around the room. I consulted an "expert" , that is, someone who knows more than me which is not difficult. He thought it might be some kind of spring. Maybe. Or broken? In which case that stare is accusatory.

@CaraBruar @didathingclub I think it is broken. The part that is pointing upwards seems ripped away from the rest and it usually should look like the bottom part. It is like a little metal rim. My best guess is that it was kind of a bracked to hold some of the cables in place.

And, yes, it is accusing me of breaking it and then not putting it back where it belongs. Only that I have no idea where that is.

@strangeseawolf @CaraBruar @didathingclub

If parts don't jump out or fall to the ground it helps to use a board of wood or cardboard with double sided tape, in the rough shape/size of whatever you're working on and place the item roughly where it was.

If you keep the covers of the double sided tape you can even reuse the board
