If you think you know a lot of English vocabulary, I heartily recommend Gene Wolf’s multi-volume Book of the New Sun: Shadow of the Torturer, Claw of the Conciliator, Sword of the Lictor, and Citadel of the Autarch.
As you might guess from the titles (!) Wolfe used obscure words (correctly!!) instead of making up new ones. The series takes place in a far-future earth (the moon is green!!!) and every page if not every paragraph is bedazzled with bon mots like some phrontistery.

This also works if you don’t know a lot of English words, because, frankly, he’s pulled so far ahead basically everyone will be reaching for their dictionaries. Would be a terrific e-book for checking what the heck he means.

“Despite being published with a year between each book, all four books were written and completed during his free time without anyone's knowledge when he was still an editor of Plant Engineering, allowing him to write at his own pace and take his time.”
