Waking up early as I've been promised a breakfast of homemade biscuits and gravy!!!
Im headed over to a persons house to meet with them. A mutual aid colleague in town has to step down and rest so she's introducing me to another woman who is going to take her place. We're meeting over a meal to swap ideas and initiatives.
I suck at organizing people. I'm good at building programs. The person I'm meeting with is good at organizing people if there's a program apparatus to plug into. I think we'll get along fine.

An amazing thing is happening in my town...
With all the bullshit that is going on in my country (USA), so many people in my town are rushing to do something about it. Folks are organizing now to start up a Food Not Bombs program, food rescue and free fridges are building, the LGBTQIA+ groups are going into overdrive, ICE watches are springing up.
Nothing like a terror and a monster to band people together...

As for myself, I've been completely wrecked. Just destroyed. There's been days this week where I could not get out of bed.
I can't describe how dark my thoughts have been and low I've gotten.
So I slept it off as I could. Survived as I can.
I'm going to get up and go have some biscuits and gravy and meet a new friend.
I can't do any of this alone.
But I can lend my shoulder to my town and my community.
We'll get it done.

@tinker Sorry to hear this. It’s clear from your posts that you care a lot about others and want to help people, especially those who are the most vulnerable. But I imagine that doing that work must be not only physically tiring, but also mentally taxing, especially if you’re being asked to do things outside of your normal areas of strength. I’m sure you know this, but it can be a good decision to step back temporarily, or decide to contribute in a different way, if you want.

@tinker Taking a break, or just making a change, does not somehow reduce or negate your commitment to the cause. In fact, taking time to recharge is often a good decision if it allows you to return to the efforts with renewed commitment. But, obviously you know your situation better than I - a stranger on the Internet - do! And whatever you do, I hope you’ll make good decisions that prioritize your health and well-being as well as that of your community.

@tinker we've had food rescue for years, but we do have an ICE Watch now. City announced that local PD will not be assisting ICE. Not really newsworthy, as helping ICE would constitute work, which they haven't been doing for several years. That's a different story for a different day.
