Powered through the jet lag by immediately going to the theatre to see Les Mis live! 🥰

Was really great, what a show. It really is different to see such thing live.

Last time I did “airport to theatre” I was totally crashing (in NYC, on Elektra), glad I managed to stay awake :-) #music

@ktoso Got excited for a minute because I thought it was Tokyo 🥲 Last time “airport to theatre” (colloquially known as A2T) for me was for Hamilton, and I had no problem staying awake

@zhhz On second thought... I guess it's a bit weird that musicals get translated in local languages hm... Would have been fun to have this in french tbh, but I guess the "original" musical was always in English so yeah hm...

I guess I like the Opera style where you just get subtitles and the original, e.g. italian etc heh :)

@ktoso I do agree these more traditional “show tunes” can be pretty well translated—especially after this long of a run! 劇団四季 seems to be doing a lot of these. But a more recent example is, for some reason, Waitress was translated to Japanese, and it sounds surprisingly good!

And the 横文字化 of Japanese does help. Sometimes they just don’t translate a word and it still sounds like (modern) Japanese haha

@ktoso I also heard a Japanese version of Alexander Hamilton in Japanese some years ago, when there were still murmurs of a Japanese version. It sounded…forced.

@ktoso Les Mis is one of the few shows I’ve seen more than once live. I think I’m up to four times and I’m ready to do it again. I thought getting the original cast recording would get me the fix, but it just doesn’t capture the feels
