Toot

Written by Ducky Fella on 2025-01-24 at 19:11

I’ve followed a bunch of accounts and hashtags but now me feed goes too quickly and I get FOMO if I don’t read every post. I’ve started checking the app far too frequently for my liking. How do you guys deal with this?

@duckyfella The obvious answer would be to unfollow some people/tags.

If that's not what you want, setting up lists is what people mainly do to keep track. Lists for topics, or to sort people by importance to you. Lists are private, so you don't need to worry about offending.

Oh, and remember you can turn off boosts on a per-user basis. So you'd still see what they write, just not what they share.

Or you could try to steer your mentality away from the FOMO and learn to live with the gaps. 😇

@julian@fietkau.social @duckyfella@cupoftea.social living with the gaps is fun because you can find posts later and enjoy them. it's like finding coins in your couch cushions

@julian @duckyfella Good advice!

I've turned off the boosts of a couple of people who seemed to boost almost everything regardless of context.

I've got a couple of lists, but I could usefully have more.

Filters! I have a lot of words in about three distinct groups - mainly around sport & american politics - these help a lot.

I'm not sure that it removes the noise a great deal but I have muted a fair number of users - mainly users whose views I find at odds with my code.
