I have to talk about politics and my mom. Forgive me if I ramble, but I'm still trying to process. In 2016, I didn't speak to my mom for six months over politics. She was a Trump supporter and I almost had a nervous breakdown after the election. It took us a solid week of serious face-to-face time, and many tears, to reach ground zero. We kind of established a stand off and she has steered clear of anything remotely political since then. 1/

Just before this election, when she threatened that she would not vote, I pulled out the nuclear weapon and told her that if Trump was elected, we would be spending the next 4 years in Italy. She had to hide it from the rest of the family, but she couldn't vote for me not to come home. 2/

As I've spent the past 4 weeks with Mama, it has been hard to avoid politics. But as I said, she has tried to steer clear of politics so much that she has avoided the news. As I've gently told her what Trump is up to, it has been like watching someone who has been hibernating for 20 years return to life. "He did WHAT?" She was a loyal civil servant for 30+ years, so she is just flabbergasted. Finding out that Trump didn't put his hand on the Bible broke something in her. 3/

I spent yesterday holed up at my friend's house because middle Georgia can't deal with snow. So it seems that Mama spent the time scouring the Internet for news about all of the things that Trump has been doing, and she has decided that he is the Antichrist. Can I just say O. M. G. Not that it's going to matter. We are all doomed, but at least my mom has broken free from the crazy pod that is my MAGA family. 4/end
