@brawnybunkbedbuddy @wonderofscience When I see (on video) houses that are threatened by lava I imagin... what if the owner would have prepared big "moulds" around the property for afterwards having lava walls and lava stairs! 😄

This looks absurdly terrifying. The way the lava slowly moves towards their "safety sneakers", or the way that if they slip sideways on those incredibly smooth rocks they'll roast like a charcoal brick before anyone can get to them.

@wonderofscience Any geologists here? Does the interaction of the lava with the water in the bucket have any chemical consequences? Does the chemical analysis have to account for this? Or do you just discard the exterior skin of the sample before analysis?

@MichaelPorter @wonderofscience I'm not a geologist, but I'm going to bet it's both. There are probably some tests that aren't affected by the water (such some mineral composition tests), and some that probably are (measuring water content, measuring elements or minerals like sulfur that probably react with water or oxygen)
