Lately we’ve been preparing for a new website, a place where we can shine a light on what Hanami has grown into.

Part of the plan is to put our community values front and centre.

But then I realised, why wait? So now they’re front and centre on our current Hanami home page.

We’re excited to grow a positive, safe and welcoming community for Rubyists. We’d love for you to join us!

@hanami I recently took a serious look at Hanami but bounced off pretty hard.

1. The getting started doc is some kind of TDD walkthrough, which is a huge distraction from actually learning what Hanami is. https://guides.hanamirb.org/v2.2/introduction/building-a-web-app/

2. The search engine doesn’t work if you type a word and hit enter. You have to stop and wait for several seconds for js, then you only get 5 results.

3. A missed opportunity, there’s no doc to orient people considering moving from Rails.

@timriley Then I’ll add a small thing, but https://guides.hanamirb.org/ doesn’t have a list of guides and the sole high-intensity above-the-fold button sends the visitor away from the guides.

@pushcx Yeah, I don't like that front page at all. This whole thing is going away. We'll be unifying the guides and docs into our main website, and making them much easier to discover.

@pushcx @hanami I love TDD but I had a bit of the same reaction reading that section, maybe too much of a tutorial? I had the opposite reaction to https://guides.hanamirb.org/v2.2/database/overview/ - it seemed to be throwing too many concepts at me rapid fire but needed to slow down with a few specifics or examples before I was ready for the next one.

Anyway, documentation is hard and my overall reaction was positive: it seems Hanami has made a lot of progress in terms of functionality and describing itself in practical terms.
