Today in things I figured out nearly too late: auto-generating frozen string literal comments with RuboCop.

Noah Gibbs was one of the most welcoming figures I’ve met at conferences over the years, and always generous with his knowledge.

He wanted to build up all Rubyists.

Very sad to hear of his passing. A great loss to us all.

I love it when I listen to my Apple Music Favorites Mix, because I get to repeatedly think to myself, “Wow, what good taste I have!” 😎

More words of thanks to @solnic here (I will never be able to say enough!), along with our plans to bring together Hanami, dry-rb and ROM:

Today I am feeling grateful for the one and only @solnic.

I am pleased he is moving into a place he has found peace!

I am thankful for everything he contributed to Ruby.

I am proud to have worked alongside him.

And after all that, I am hopeful for the future we can continue to build with dry-rb and ROM together with @hanami.

Strongly considering shifting my whole site over to Pika and blogging there. I want to write more, and I have this niggling suspicion that managing markdown files in a git repo is a little too much friction. https://pika.page

The first of all my recent Hanami writing is out: a State of Hanami update! And there’s some exciting stuff therein: https://hanamirb.org/blog/2024/12/10/state-of-hanami-december-2024/

I’m looking forward to our project being a lot more communicative this year. This is just the start!

This month, everything I’m doing for Hanami is about writing. Writing for our contributors, writing for the public, and everything in between.

They are very good words, though, and I’m excited for the story they tell of our year to come.

New lens day! Olympus 25mm/f1.8. I was wanting to try a different focal length for an everyday prime. Already I can tell this will be much better for portraits, while still feeling flexible enough for other kinds of scenes.

Today was a good day for walking: 6.5km during our company all hands, and after a few other local errands, nearly 20k steps in total. I’d be very happy if I could do this for 2-3 hours every day.

(I did need an extra shower after the all hands, though 😆)

Inspired by @tom, just published the first weeknotes for my team at work. I can already tell this will be so good, why didn’t I do it sooner!
