The whole "it's a Roman salute and the Nazis don't own it" thing is such obvious bullshit, but I remember ostensibly liberal accounts making similar arguments whenever some bigwig in the Ukrainian military was caught with swastika merch ("mAyBe hE's zOrRoAstRiAn"), so...yeah. 💀

This German public broadcasters video (with english subtitles) is a great and memorable example of how modern nazi's deny and deflect them using blatant nazi symbology.

The english title is "Playing the Nazi Card in the Third Reich" (In case your instance picks up the German title instead)
