I recently ordered a wood chipper attachment for our tractor. The one I decided to get is made in Canada and I am buying direct from the manufacturer. Orders are backed up a bit so they do not expect to ship one to me until sometime in the first part of February. The company made it clear that if a tariff is imposed before the chipper heading to me crosses the border into the USA then I will have two choices.
Option 1: I pay the tariff and the chipper continues on its way to me.
Option 2: I decline to pay the tariff in which case the company refunds 100% of my down payment and cancels the order.

@mappingsupport if it's under $10k it might be worth it to run across the border and pick it up and then bring it back?
Otherwise watch Ritchie Bros auctions and likely a good used one will show up at a reasonable price. My dad has bought a bunch of implements that way over the years including several brand new implements still in their original crates at about a tenth the price of retail.

@douglasvb Yeah, cost is under 10k. I guess I could have the company ship to a freight dock across the border from WA and then drive our truck there. I do have a passport. But I can picture running into trouble with the border agents over the tariff thing trying to get back into the USA.
