Back on the “Mastodon was just the first big ActivityPub server and so all the native clients implemented the clientside API that was meant for its JS” — maybe Fediverse clients just need to start having modes for looking at your followers in either messages (text) mode or “Pixel” (photos/videos mode with an IG-type interface) and you’d just use it on the same server, rather than needing in a Pixelfed client and a Pixelfed server. (Or maybe later a Loops client with a Loops server, etc.)

I know, that’s how the ActivityPub client API spec was written. I’m just suggesting that the existing popular iOS clients, web clients like Phanpy, etc, all consider adding a “pictures” mode to their interface.
