Before I delete my IG account, I’m posting about why and asking others to join me. I doubt they will, but at least I can try.

I know, that’s how the ActivityPub client API spec was written. I’m just suggesting that the existing popular iOS clients, web clients like Phanpy, etc, all consider adding a “pictures” mode to their interface.

Back on the “Mastodon was just the first big ActivityPub server and so all the native clients implemented the clientside API that was meant for its JS” — maybe Fediverse clients just need to start having modes for looking at your followers in either messages (text) mode or “Pixel” (photos/videos mode with an IG-type interface) and you’d just use it on the same server, rather than needing in a Pixelfed client and a Pixelfed server. (Or maybe later a Loops client with a Loops server, etc.)

[#]webNostalgia. I was going to post about something else, riffing on a video game idea that I had about procedurally generating a fake mid-90’s internet inside a game. I found you can kind of go back there now, by using archive.org ‘s October 1996 crawl of yahoo.com as a starting point: https://web.archive.org/web/19961017235908/http://www2.yahoo.com/
My favorite category to look at back then was https://web.archive.org/web/19961128135357/http://www8.yahoo.com/Science/Engineering/Mechanical_Engineering/Robotics/ and in particular the NASA page https://web.archive.org/web/19970118110203/http://robotics.jpl.nasa.gov/groups/rv/homepage.html
