looking at InfinityFree, which looks like it's free and supported by ads on the main site and control panel (not on users' websites)? https://www.infinityfree.com/

@kayserifserif if u don’t need PHP there’s always neocities. My sites all sit on greenhost which isn’t cheap but isn’t pricey either https://greenhost.net/

@kayserifserif Netlify lets you upload a folder for free, not sure if they let you do ftp explicitly but it works really well

@kayserifserif Cloudfront Pages can host from a simple file drop for free mo problem, and NearlyFreeSpeech is a more complete (and actual FTP) low-cost option.

@lalabadie just to clarify - is that cloudflare pages? (I searched cloudfront pages but it was suggesting the other cloudf____ product haha)

thanks for the suggestions! i'm hesitant to recommend NFS as i had an aborted attempt with it once due to it being more technical than other platforms. but i do like the general ethos of it

@kayserifserif @lalabadie Oh, yes correct! Cloudflare Pages. It has this nice "drop your files here to get a new deployment" functionality.

@kayserifserif I use Amazon S3, and Transmit for FTP'ing files up to it. I have many gigabytes on there and it's covered by the free tier. I use cloudfront as a CDN in front of all that and pay 7¢/month in usage fees.

It's a bit confusing and complex to get started, but it's worked well for me for about a decade now, and I expect it to continue working the same way at the same price for a decade yet.

@kayserifserif maybe someone suggested it already, but Netlify has a decent free plan with easy drag and drop deploys. 😊

If you’re looking for something starting at 5€/Month with tons of room to grow, great support and hosted in Germany, I can wholeheartedly recommend https://uberspace.de.

@kayserifserif

Maybe too technically complicated, but Github Pages is free, and lets you point a custom domain at it:

https://pages.github.com/

But you have to use GIt to update your website so def more of a learning curve than FTP/drag-n-drop.

EDIT: That netlify drop thing looks really cool and def easier to use!

@kayserifserif Netlify lets you drag and drop a zip file of HTML etc, for free web hosting. So you'd need to zip things up every time you changed content.

https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/ has actual FTP/SFTP and is cheap (haven't used it, merely know of its existence).
