Proud chess coach today as one of my students finished second in his age group at the Australian National Junior Championship. I'm not sure Tasmania has ever won a medal at the Australian Junior Chess Championship before, let alone a silver.

@chestas Don't have full lists but there have been three Tasmanian Australian Girls (U18) Champions:

1980 Astrid Ketelaar

1986 Nga Phan (tie)

1987 Tam Nguyen

Yuvini Perera won GU8 twice, one was unopposed

Will Rumley won one of the problem solving comps.

I don't think there have been many 2nds and 3rds.

Yusuf won the Under 8 Problem Solving and came equal first in the Under 8 Blitz but ended third on tiebreak.

Zoe Meredith came third in the Under 10 Girls blitz, but controversially, they only gave first and second in that division.

The girls tournaments get lower participation numbers so that will be an excuse for lower prizes, though of course, not justified
