A pattern I've noticed is that if I have a daily todo list that's short, I get more done.

Not just more a a percentage, but more tasks overall.

I've have several theories on why this is:

@serge I add things so fast. I think you're right though, too many items keeps much from getting done.

@AFresh1

Adding lot of items is okay, though, as long as you can also get through things quickly.

I find I have spikes and dips in my todo list total. Sometimes I have a huge backlog and either I can plow my way through a good chunk, or if it's too much, I look at the list and manage it.

Some items can be scheduled out so they will show up when they need to, but not before. I typically do this for followups, eg I'll send someone an email on Monday and expect a response by EOD Wednesday. I'll make a todo item for Thursday that says "Follow up with [blank]". There's no point in me seeing that item before Thursday.

Some items I realize are part of a project that's on hold. Those I move to the appropriate project folder and then I may or may not schedule out a reminder to check the folder.

Some items may be important, and so they stay but get reprioritized up. Others stay and get prioritized down.

And finally, some items simply get deleted.
