Toot

Written by bit101 on 2025-01-21 at 00:11

I was going to get a small item printed at Shapeways. I've successfully printed a number of things there before. But they shifted their business model. Not really good for one-offs these days. Any other options without a 6x markup?

@bit101 have not used this one in particualar but it seems you can get in contact with local printing enthusiasts. might be cheaper.

@bit101 3D print? I'm here if you wanna send a file over. Shouldn't take long to mail to you either.

@lukepeters ooh. nice. I did think of asking people I know who have 3d printers, but don't want to be that guy. But if you're offering...

@lukepeters Anyway, these are the files. should be pretty ... teensy. I think I just need the case and lid ones. the heatsink file just looks to be an alternate lid. Color, material, no preference. Whatever you have is fine. https://www.printables.com/model/241328-teensy-41-sleeve-case/files

@bit101 Yeah I don't mind, sounds fun :) Here are your color/material options despite not having a preference:

@lukepeters well, orange case with black lid might be nice. carbon fiber would be overkill. :)

@bit101 Alrighty it’s in the mail. The surface finish has a few imperfections because I haven’t used these two filaments in a while and they could use a proper drying out, but it might be more than good enough for your use. Let me know either way.

@lukepeters

Wow, so fast! Thank you. This is purely functional for me. Not fashion. I just don't want to have a bare circuit board dangling off my laptop. I couldn't find any for sale, just plenty of 3d models. So this is great.

@bit101 Oh okay sweet 👍🏻 The lid was designed with a bit too much clearance FYI, so it slides open too easily, but I'm sure you can make a minor adjustment to improve that. Normally I design my own parts so can iterate until I have a perfect fit.
