⚙️ Machining won out over welding. I ordered a benchtop metal lathe and decided my first project will be a meta one - making a machinist's scribe.

It's a pretty simple object but touches on several of the basics I've been learning about: Center drilling, facing, turning (obviously), tapering, grooving, and chamfering.

Here's the final version of my design. I 3D printed it in plastic a few times to get the ergonomics just right. Now I just have to be patient and wait for my machine to arrive 😄

I've been feeling compelled to dive into a new hobby lately, because clearly I don't have enough. I'm trying to decide between Machining and Welding.

Both are very intriguing from the perspective of what they'll allow me to create. And both come with an investment in new tools and gear 😅

I already have a drill press, so maybe a hobbyist metal lathe and a belt grinder would be enough to let me start creating useful things and learning 🤔

I've embraced the Gridfinity system to organize my tool cabinet. I still have a few custom trays/bins to design and print, but the progress so far is very satisfying 😃
