@bryanhansel Is that -42 the actual temperature, or the windchill?

(either way that's frickin' cold)

@pjohanneson actual temp near Isabella Lake as recorded by NOAA. It was -22°F actual at my place near Lake Superior.

About -41ºC. Mercury freezes at -39ºC so that's the thermometer goosed.

(I once had the considerable pleasure of freezing mercury - the solid metal is very beautiful.)

I know, and is perfectly plausible for Minnesota. It's always interesting when a temperature falls below the freezing point of mercury. Especially if (and not in this case) someone says "the mercury hit -x"
