@evert @puddull Yes, you may want to make a second account at some of the smaller lgbtqia Mastodon instances. Because Mastodon dot social is huge and may have been blocked by several of the smaller instances admins. This one for example has less than 400 users https://lgbtqia.space/explore

There are loads of queer people here! Some of them may even be young. 😄 The Fediverse was built for, and by, people who weren't well served by commercial social networks.

But this place doesn't shove posts in your face the way other social networks do: you'll need to follow people, so that your feed is whatever you want it to be rather than what some corporate overlord wants to show you.

@puddull I’m an old, but mom to a queer trans daughter, and available to mom all the lost kids, should they need an encouraging word. 🥰. There is a large #lgbtq+ community and and overall geeky but progressive vibe here.

There is no algorithm, hashtags are important for both finding and being found. There can be a learning curve, but my experience here has been considerably less friction than other sites. I hope you like it!

@yellow @puddull so mastodon is kind of structured differently as a whole compared to twitter. if twitter is a holistic one baseplate site that everyone is on, mastodon is more like a jigsaw puzzle. there are many interconnected different servers (they are also called instances) with their target audiences and rules and whatnot and you can make an account on any of them and talk to people on other servers.

You just might like it here. Lots of LGBTQIA+ people here, including lots of trans, NB, and genderfluid people.

There are a number of Fediverse/Mastodon instances specifically oriented to LGBTQIA people. If you find one with a group of people who really appeals to you, you could consider switching to an account on that instance. That's an option you don't have on the big services.

Anyway I am following lots of elder queer type people and some younger, so I'll boost this for you!
