There used to be a person, a leftist, on local radio. That almost always referred to the USA as "the empire".
Long dead now, and sorely missed. It shames me to say that I didn't understand them until fairly recently.
Today I'm wondering where the empire is going. And I worry that, in between trying to stay employed and being entertained, maybe I should be more concerned about what is happening.
It seems like a dark age looming, but is it? Or am I just being gaslighted into being scared?

@afreytes I think the empire showing cracks is a good sign, seeing that US bourgeois dictatorship is now a volatile and increasingly ridiculous real life parody of itself means that the center of human civilization is on the move again.
It started in south america, moved to the middle east, to the west and is now moving to the far east. It means history is progressing and there will be new opportunities to make things good and just

@afreytes honestly, I think this is all business as usual. It’s just people finding out their privilege checks won’t cash as easily.
People who didn’t care about the humanity of Palestinians or the humanity of disabled people in the empire suddenly want us all to care about their humanity.

@afreytes The expression "ignorance is bliss" runs through my head all the time.
You can only be truly happy when you're blind to all injustice, but many people are desperately opposed to having this awareness because it means accepting accountability.
That's when you see "end wokeness". Those people are fundamentally terrified of seeing the monster in the mirror.
