Since I upgraded from 32MB to 96MB of RAM, my laptop hangs when shutting down Windows.
It is otherwise stable and much snappier, so I can’t fathom it. I’d rather not reinstall Windows just for this…

Thanks to @FiXato and @antijingoist for suggesting this may be to do with hibernation - disabling hibernation and checking my swap settings does seem to have done the trick!
Windows 98 is somehow easier to fix than Windows 11.
I guess it is 87 versions more advanced...

@kestral you can do partial recovery/reinstalls now so you don’t lose everything.
But also, do you have hibernation enabled?

@antijingoist I do have hibernation/standby enabled, worth turning it off?
Unsure if I can do a recovery/reinstall but I’ll have a look.

@kestral so my thought is, Ram change changes hibernation file. If windows gets sketchy about increasing the size of the file for whatever reason, on shut down is where it would hang.
If disabling hibernation works, re-enabling should work also, because it would be a new hibernation file.

@kestral I sure hope thats GB and not MB? Or are you running Windows 98? 😅

@FiXato literally the latter.

@kestral how is your disk space? Is Windows perhaps trying to commit all the extra RAM to Swap or some other state file for quick resume?

@FiXato oh perhaps. I’ve got 2.5GB free on the disk, but I’ll check my settings.
