@FediTips
Is there an android client where you can reverse the scroll direction?
It doesn't make sense seeing the very end of long posts first. Quite peculiar.
Thanks for the really helpful work.

@ianp5a @FediTips I don't understand the question. can you please rephrase?

@samiam @FediTips In the timeline/home, new posts arrive at the top and you scroll them downwards to see them. Older posts disappear off the bottom of the screen.
The requirement is an option to reverse this direction.

@ianp5a @FediTips you want new posts to appear at the bottom, and then to scroll up to read them?
note: I still don't think I understand, because this seems to contradict your first description, as far as I could understand it. I'm not trying to be difficult -- just trying to understand, and perhaps help others understand too. that said, if you find my questions annoying, feel free to tell me and/or stop trying to answer them. maybe someone else will respond in a more helpful way!

@ianp5a @FediTips I just read thru your exchange with feditips, which wasn't there yet when I started. I'm still confused 😅 but maybe getting closer!
so, you're scrolling along down, and at some point you see the last post in an extended thread, of which you haven't previously read the earlier posts? not ideal. you'd like the feed to handle extended threads differently so that you could more easily recognize them and start reading them from the beginning.
maybe?

@samiam @FediTips No the threads are OK. It's the main timeline that has the problem.

Are you wanting the oldest posts to be at the top? With the newest posts at the bottom?

[#]Pachli by @pachli implemented that feature!
Bear in mind that it remains an experimental feature, though you can give it a try and help improve it 🙂: https://pachli.app/pachli/2024/08/30/2.8.0-release.html#experimental-support-for-reversing-the-timeline

@xuan @FediTips @samiam @pachli yes got it now and it works!
I'll have to see what happens when new posts come in now.

@xuan @FediTips @samiam @pachli hooray! finally solved one of mastodon's crazy deficits. The Pachli mobile client let's you set it to have new posts appear at the bottom of the timeline, where they scroll upwards. Just like a thread does. You read the top of a long post first. (I read top to bottom.)
Now all Mastodon needs is rich text, and groups, for it to start to have function over fashion.

You can create rich text if you join or move to a Glitch Mastodon server. This rich text will be displayed by ordinary Mastodon servers too: https://fedi.tips/is-mastodon-compatible-with-rich-text-formatting-such-as-markdown/
You can find some nice Glitch Mastodon servers listed at https://fedi.garden/tag/glitch-mastodon/
