trying to buy less petroleum-based products has really opened my eyes to how pervasive they are in clothing—polyester, nylon, acrylic, pvc / vegan “leather”, spandex, etc. even spendier brands like everlane will sell something with cotton in the name to have the tag reveal it’s 30% nylon.
I’m also learning that fabrics are the easiest part to track of petrochemical processing in —dyeing and prep processes harder. it’s a bummer, man https://www.wellandgood.com/petroleum-based-fashion-impact/

also just bums me out to see thrift store racks overrun with shein selling for over the original price. I know fast fashion isn’t new, but secondhand not being able to compete with prices new feels newer and bad in every way

I really feel like we should’ve never been trusted with bone juice as a society

@christa Yeah, I was going through racks at a thrift store yesterday and looking at labels, and it’s pretty dire out there. The American Giant showroom on Alabama St in SF has limited inventory but occasionally has great sales, and they have a bunch of 100% cotton products.
