I've been feeling really cold this winter in the house, turning up the heat higher than I've had to in the past, to the extent that my wife has noticed and commented on it. Until today I hadn't figured out why, but I just realized the likely cause: I've been #dieting again this winter because I let my weight creep back up about five lbs higher than I want it to be, and because I'm running a calorie deficit my body is minimizing the energy used to keep my extremities warm. D'oh.

Normally I diet in the summer and "bulk up" in the winter for exactly this reason, but for whatever reason I just didn't have the spoons to diet this past summer. I'm trying to do it now, even though it's a bad time of year, because I discovered after Chanukah (too many potato latkes, anyone?) that one of my pairs of jeans no longer fits, a sure sign that I've let things go too far. 😉
