I just bought a new Ego battery-powered snowblower, and finding out that they also sell the battery equivalent of a generator you can plug anything into, plus a standalone solar panel you can charge it from, was a real “This better not awaken anything in me.” moment for my inner prepper.

@overholt they make good gear; we've had their two-stage 'blower now for a couple of winters and I'm generally happy with it. Their leaf blower is just right for our place, as well as for dealing with our gutters from our upstairs windows, and even light dry dustings of snow.

@overholt Which model did you get? aAnd please report back as our gas-powered snowblower is long in the tooth and, well, runs on dinosaur oil.

@onpaperwings This is the one we got; waiting on a predicted 6” snowfall overnight to test it out. https://egopowerplus.com/snow-blower-steel-auger-snt2110/

@overholt Exactly the one I was considering. Thanks for testing it for me!

@onpaperwings Snowfall was lighter than expected, so not a hugely strenuous test, but I was pretty happy with it. It’s lighter than the gas-powered, so easier to push around, and much easier to start. We’re on a corner, so it’s a good amount of sidewalk and clearing it with a double-width pass didn’t seem to put that big a dent in the battery charge.

@overholt Appreciate the review! Curious about pushing vs self-propelled as our current gas one is S-P but obviously heavier and dumber.

@overholt OMG this makes so much more sense than putting solar panels on your house

We need to reclaim prepping. There are good preppers and bad preppers. It's like hackers. Preservationists are the good kind 😇
