Tech people: I am begging you to please Learn What A Nonprofit Actually is.

Also learn the difference between Nonprofit and Not-For-Profit. They are similar, but not the same.

Both however, can make money. I worked for a nonprofit hospital, my ex works for a nonprofit theater. (By the way, if you want to do the donation thing for taxes, Theatre Tallahassee is a solid community theater in a state that just halted ALL gov grants for the arts. They could use the help: https://theatretallahassee.org)

Both orgs made money. Profit is allowed. It’s what you DO with the profit that’s different. No shareholders. The profit can only be spent in certain ways (including employee salaries.)

Now there is a mode called cost recovery, wherein profit is managed in a way that aims to have the overall business break even every year, but those can have operating reserves, etc.

However, that’s not required.

Y’all need to stop acting like nonprofit means “no profit”, that is not how this shit works.
