Today I listened to music on the go on my iPhone. And it was music streaming from my personal library of .flac files, ripped cds and albums I bought on Bandcamp.

The music is on an ssd attached to a #raspberrypi that I have at home.

Using @jellyfin as the back end and AmpFin as the front end on my phone.

Such a great feeling.

@mauro @jellyfin good to know! I don't have a pi but i'll consider this for the future...right now I have to use RustDesk to get into my arch install and play music from it

@todor you could go even all open source if you self host the control server "Headscale":

Or just use a different option like NetBird.

@mauro nice. I do the same but I use Plex on a NUC and PlexAmp. I like that PlexAmp lets you download files to your device - my cell carrier is terrible.

@jasper AmpFin allows you to downolad files as well!

Only things I'm really missing is gapeless playback (that's on JellyFin apparently), and maybe I need to figure out how to transcode flacs into a lossy format in certain scenarios.

@mauro I thought it probably would but I don't have any experience with the Jellyfin ecosystem. I am starting to look, though - Plex is going in a weird direction.

PlexAmp does let you transcode on cellular and I do use that. If I'm out, I'm probably on Airpods, then FLACs are kinda redundant. But if I'm wired I want my FLACs 😁
