I got some fancy Japanese rice from an upscale supermarket over Christmas, but I just tried it today. And oh my God, even though I only put it in the rice cooker, it is the creamiest rice ever. I am now forever spoiled. I cannot accept regular supermarket sushi rice anymore.

I am an extremely picky rice eater and I have tried to find kinds that I like for many years so finding one that simply works in a rice cooker without giving me texture issues gives me so much joy.

(Please don’t recommend me long grain rice, I know about basmati and jasmine rice, and I know how popular they are, but I just can’t eat them 😭)

@me Do you perhaps have? Short grain rice recommendations? 🥺 (I got this one from Crisp and it’s a 2 kg bag but I’m already planning to place another order for it. And it might well have more variations of fancy rice.)

@me Brand or rice types! Sushi rice is proving to be my most favourite but if there are any other similar Asian rice types that I could sample?

@elisse@mas.to Personally;

8/10 would recommend, you can hardly get anything better in NL imho.

I don't have any experience with their "thai glutinous rice", but I have no doubt in my mine that it's Green Dragon their rice is gonna be awesome.

Bonus

I know it's precooked and whatnot, but genuinely... it is pretty nice.

Having said all that, I do realize it's pretty expensive to figure out what kind of rice you like, and which you don't like. For that, I recommend, keep an eye out on the websites of Ochama and Amazing Oriental for some nice deals. Especially Amazing Oriental used to do these combo packs where they had a whole bunch of 100 (or 200, can't really remember 😅) grams of rice sample packs.

@me Many many thanks for the long list of recs! 💗 Bookmarked and will start trying. Luckily what I don't like won't go to waste, bc my partner will eat any kind of rice happily. :D

@elisse@mas.to Oooohhhh that sounds good!

Than I would recommend just try everything you see from the Asian supermarket and once you found your "daily rice", buy it in bulk and get a nice rice container / dispenser and you will be good for life :D
