Not finding it now, but saw a post earlier with the suggestion that the English word "sneeze" derives from a misreading of the Old English "fnesen" — since an initial or medial "s" came for a time to be written like this: ʃ
I'm reminded of that as I'm seeing the "long s" in this droll passage from Voltaire, regarding Socrates' daimon.
