@shriramk I don't know what they did, but it make sense to book the position in a row ABCetc and leave the row flexible. One can plausibly even say that a seat designation comprises of a row number and a seat character.

They repeatedly say "we are not guaranteeing your seat, only your category of seat" (like window/aisle), to cover their asses if there is an equipment change.
So I think you've nailed it: what the are saying is you've successfully booked a "seat category".
