@coreysnipes That's funny! Just yesterday I stumbled upon #meshtastic and immediately ordered a TTGO LoRa 32. π

@PistonPin Hah! I really like the idea of it. It was fun to fiddle around with. I think it would be more interesting if I could get some real range on it. It was helpful to have two units when I was getting started, also.

@coreysnipes Im really curious, if I have some nodes around me, and if so, how many. π
An idea, that immediately came to my mind, was to build a small "beacon", that would send or respond with my GPS coordinates when I'm out running on some sketchy trails. That could be pretty cool!

@PistonPin I bought a pair of Heltek V3 with cases, similar to https://www.amazon.com/MakerFocus-Development-Integrated-Meshtastic-Intelligent/dp/B0CWNX7NXG?th=1 Plus a couple of larger antennae. I haven't done any range testing on them, beyond putting them in the upstairs window to see what pops up. (In my case, not much.)

@PistonPin Oh also - There is a choice of radio modes and the common standard seems to be to use Long Fast. I believe that wasn't the default on mine when I configured them, and I had to change it. If you're not using the same mode as the other units in your area, you won't see each other.

@coreysnipes My node arrived this morning. I've immediately set it up and it actually seems to be working quite well. The farthest node I see so far, is 94km away (four hops, iirc). π

@PistonPin Nice! Is that just with the LoRa radio or are you using MQTT?

@coreysnipes So far, radio only. But I'd also like to experiment with MQTT.

@PistonPin Ah, that's much better luck than I've had around here. Great to hear.
