Here’s a thought: Different fediverse platforms are interoperable. For example, you can view mastodon accounts on Pixelfed and vice versa.
Which leads me to wonder why not have one fedi server that can post different types of content. Eg text/image/vertical video.
And then in the fedi client you can choose what type of content you want to see. Or what viewer mode you want to use?
That way you can follow a person once. And not have to follow their masto, Pixelfed, loops, wordpress(lol) etc.

@mattgrayyes that was what AP's original promise was (the servers simply being dumb pipes with most of the work being on clients) but nobody really does it that way because mastodon didn't, and because the specs are incredibly lacking in all sorts of key areas (e.g. authentication isn't defined at all as far as i remember, the current handle system is a mastodon-ism, nobody can agree on how to represent a post and the only official advice boils down to "assume anyone can send anything and try to make sense of it good luck") there isn't a "mastodon for client-side ap" that fills in the gaps like it did for server-side ap.
