@rolle "However, the developer stresses that Flashes is not meant to be an Instagram clone, nor will it offer all the same features.
At launch, Flashes will support photo posts of up to four images and videos of up to one minute in length, just like Bluesky."
This seems to be more of a filter than another "app" on top of the protocol.

@rolle
"To make this work, Flashes simply filters Bluesky’s existing timeline for posts with photos and video posts."
"he’s now working to integrate subscription-based features from both his apps so users don’t have to pay twice for the premium features".
Lol, i'm good for now. Also a subscription for the Flashes app? i don't know man...

@Jarska96 @rolle money’s gotta come from somewhere. I’d rather it not come from selling what I do in there to others!

@gimulnautti @rolle Yeah, but this also shows a big difference between pixelfed & bluesky's instagram copy.

Whoever comes up with a close facsimile of TT will win the Internet, in the US anyway.
I checked out pixelfed, but it's too much like most any other social site - seeing pics from one account only until you change to another account.
The nice thing about TT is you see a variety of vids coming across your page.
The algorithm figures out the vids you like and share, and then you see more from that genre.
The For You page shows vids from these genres and the Followers page shows vids only from accounts you follow.
I'm not a computer person, but this doesn't seem like a difficult concept to replicate.

YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels are both "close facsimiles" of TikTok. Twitter Periscope was before TikTok. None have won the Internet. It's not just a question of short video, or algorithmic variety, or any particular feature. Features are easy - it just takes programming. Getting people excited is hard.
