AirBnB can go right straight to hell for what they've done to our housing market. Now they want to act like the good people saving displaced folks from the wildfires...

Notice they are not giving up on their profit and paying for longer stays themselves. They are asking for you and I to pay the hoarders of homes to allow evacuees and first responders to stay longer. They, of course, will take the tax credit and profit.

@Brad_Rosenheim Airbnb should be aggressively banned in the LA area, with an active enforcement squad and some sort of legal repossession mechanism for properties found to be in violation. So many cities have housing crunches because of this one stupid company.

@Infoseepage Yes! My blood boiled when I saw AirBnB say "Join us in providing housing..." Chile, you're the reason housing is so damn expensive! You're the reason we don't have housing on a good day when climate change is not ravaging our cities!

@Brad_Rosenheim Airbnb is right now listing over 1,000 (how much more, I have no idea, because that's the limit of what it will display) places in the LA area being listed as "whole home" listings which are still available. My understanding is the 12,000 or so structures have burned. I wonder if all the unhoused would be able to find housing if the city forced the shutdown of airbnb (via some sort of aggressive property liquidation measure).

@Infoseepage @Brad_Rosenheim it's already bad, but LA is rife with fraud. Guy in my 4 unit complex getting evicted for renting it the townhouse and then using as an AirBnB with a fraudulent listing. AirBnB wouldn't take it down either.

@Brad_Rosenheim worse than the Kardashian garbage humans demanding people donate to them to buy fire fighters pizza when they could had done it out of petty cash.

@Brad_Rosenheim

i support #lafire folk permanently squatting/occupying the airbnb units they are in temporarily at the moment. all of them.

airbnb and the people/companies who own them have been knowingly breaking rental/housing/civic laws for years and years and years. they are responsible for unnecessary community harm. it is morally just and legally questionable for la fire folk to stay.

@Brad_Rosenheim

AirBnB is an Andreesen Horowitz company, whose founder, Marc Andreessen threatened companies that stopped advertising on Xitter with a lawsuit if they didn't start advertising again. Boycott Andreesen Horowitz's companies!

@Brad_Rosenheim Airbnb didn't break it. It's fundamentally broken and impossible to have not be broken.
