I'm sicked at this, but it really does appear that Trump's threat to Hamas with "all hell to pay" has worked to finalize a ceasefire to this horrible conflict, though it's not over by any means.

I also think that Trump was likely able to get Bibi to move as well with a promise of something later down the line.

I'm also reading that cases brought against universities around antisemitism on campus are being resolved with settlements that include stronger protections for Jewish students.

Trump is dangerous, and the US is far worse off for him. At the same time, I can't deny that a ceasefire or a reduction of antisemitism on university campuses is a good thing.

I will not move to the US because of Trump, and at the same time I won't deny myself being able to celebrate some small positives.

@serge I kinda feel the same way.

I realize that he's not a zero on every axis, but it's really frustrating.

I think the bigger frustration is that if Biden had shown that higher level of support, could he have achieved this?

@peribotsarah @serge Another way of understanding this is that Bibi delayed accepting what was essentially the same deal months ago, at least partially in order to force Biden into making decisions that would alienate a bloc of voters no matter how they were made, weaken him, and make Trump’s election more likely - because he knew that Trump in turn would be far more likely to greenlight far-right actions in the West Bank, and less likely to demand meaningful improvement in Palestinians’ lives.

@mfessler

A bit too far IMHO. Bibi doesn't control US elections and here are simpler explanations.

@serge @peribotsarah Agreed that there is a lot more going on here. The collapse of Hezbollah and decline of the Iranian axis also made this more palatable to Israelis - and Biden deserves a ton of credit for continued support of Israel’s military capacity that allowed those to happen.
