“Apple suspends error-strewn AI generated news alerts”

Dumping the false news alerts is good. But for broken app alerts, will VoiceOver announce the italics differently (it doesn’t for web) or will those users not get that critical context?

@aardrian summarising news titles is odd in the first place. A news article title is a summary in itself, and is often already full of semi truth for klickbait. Never understood why AI is needed to make it even worse, especially if the AI has zero context lying around the story which could potentially help make the summary better

@jakobrosin It wasn’t needed. Apple is just getting in the fake-AI hype train.

@aardrian @jakobrosin I think they would have garnered more of an interest if they'd said we'll wait until we can actually make this stuff good. After all, they'd been doing machine learning stuff for years. Somebody really panicked. But that appears to be the case with companies like Google.

@ppatel @aardrian Apples privacy angle to some of their AI stuff is very appealing. RIght now, they just seem to throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks though.

@jakobrosin @aardrian I suspect I can think of the reason for this. Someone proposed that they try to make the number of notifications smaller for people. They proposed that they doa summary of notifications, forgetting exceptions. A company that used to be known for its detailed work has forgotten about those pesky little details.

@ppatel @aardrian There is a feature built in to iOs for notification summaries, which the user can configure. CHoose apps, choose delivery time and it throws all the apps notifications arrived meanwhile at you during your chosen time. Apple should've simply built on top of that but they are more interested in creating new half baked features rather than tying new functionality in to existing ones. Slapping AI on anything is just cool right now, as ADrian said.

@jakobrosin @aardrian Ah but that feature stacks all the notifications in the scheduled summary. I'm in no way justifying the AI crap BTW.
